“Friday night we hung out at the Print Media Lounge in the Print Media Academy, my favorite modern building in Heidelberg located across from the main train station. The architecture and interior design are super cool. The main idea seems to be “transparency.” Lots and lots of glass. Glass walls, glass elevators–even the bases of the escalators are encased in glass, so you can see all the internal machinery. The Print Media Lounge is located in the bottom corner of the building. Very trendy, very hip place to drink expensive cocktails and listen to excellent DJed music on weekend nights. I fell in love with our DJ when he managed to mix in the Imperial Theme from Star Wars. After a few hours during which I think I tried every variation of the Caipirinha on the drink menu, we made our way outside to take some pictures of ourselves and the weird moving-metal horse in front of the building. I was starving, but Cheri managed to save me from succumbing to the train-station Burger King. Instead, we made it back to my neighborhood and gorged ourselves on cheap Turkish pizza while watching a DVD of my favorite German romantic comedy: Im Juli (In July). Cheri was the one who turned me on to the film in the first place, but I was already living in Germany at the time, so it was kind of special to finally see it together.”
